Themen und Erwartungshorizont:
Besides genetics, environmental factors around pregnancy might also have important implications for child health. In this bachelor seminar, we delve into the parental determinants, such as behaviors, health characteristics, and socio-demographic characteristics, potentially influencing birth outcomes. Probit and logistic regression will be employed to analyze this association. Participants in the seminar will be provided with the unique opportunity to enhance quantitative research skills while contributing to the exploration of the complex dynamics that shape the health outcomes of newborns. The following questions will be addressed:
- Which mechanisms could underline the link between parental factors and birth outcomes?
- What are the challenges in proving causality when investigating the relationship between parental factors and child outcomes?
- How advantageous is the Probit/Logit model compared to the Linear Probability Model?
